Welcome to Record Shop City

wilson_quoteThey still do, and 'kids' of all ages should be pleasantly surprised at just how many places in this city they can still buy records from. So this is our one-stop guide to the fantastic record shops of Greater Manchester, from the 'Vinyl Valley' that is Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, to the windswept streets of Bolton, Lancashire. Browse the menu on the right hand side and go shopping! Contact Us and tell us what you think. Please enjoy the site and Support your local record shops. Or if you haven't got any local record shops, come to Manchester and support ours. Tony Wilson quote & image used with kind permission of the Wilson family. Stop Press! Fat City Leaving Town

No sooner have we started this venture then one of the great Manchester institutions, Fat City, have announced they have left Manchester to move operations down south to somewhere called London?. I believe its a small village in Kent, so hope they appreciate them down there.

A real shame to see them leave Oldham Street but at least they’re just moving rather than closing down…although fans of Coronation Street will know what happens to folk who leave the rainy cobbles for a ‘better life’ in the big smoke….

Our correspondent and expert on all things 12″ and Funky, Carl, has locked himself in his bedroom and refuses to come out until I promise him its not true. No doubt he’ll be posting his eulogy on the site soon! The other shops might want to stock up on Madlib 12″s etc as there is at least one fella here who likes to shop local for his obscure Hip Hop and Wonky beats.

You can still find Fat City online here at http://www.fatcity.co.uk/sales/
