Like those mid period albums of the Beach Boys, Deco is a little gem that you really should go and discover. Set just off the main drag in Withington, a sign on the corner of Wimslow Road will direct you just in case you lose the scent.
Ray, the owner and host has been active in the Manchester record shop scene since the early days of Afflecks Palace and I’m sure has many an interesting story. The shop deals solely in second hand stock and for our purposes carries a broad and entertaining collection of CDs and vinyl as well as some guitars and old record players. It also does a nifty line in secondhand books and DVDs, perfect for that sunday afternoon crash out.
Genre wise it covers mainly rock and pop with a little soul, jazz and reggae thrown in. There are 2000 plus vinyl records to sift through its well worth an hours dig and there’s a nice listening deck to check out those unknowns or surface marks. On my last visit I picked up some great old school hip hop, battered but worth having and the price was reasonable.
Prices are all pretty fair but do check out the condition of items as they are used and will reflect this. One thing I enjoy about this place is the atmosphere, its very laid back and perfect for a quiet contemplative flick through the racks. All in all a great little shop and if like thousands of other mancunians you’re up and down that Wilmslow Rd corridor then make a stop, pause for an hour and get digging, you might even get a coffee!

They still do, and 'kids' of all ages should be pleasantly surprised at just how many places in this city they can still buy records from. So this is our one-stop guide to the fantastic record shops of Greater Manchester, from the 'Vinyl Valley' that is Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, to the windswept streets of Bolton, Lancashire. Browse the menu on the right hand side and go shopping!
