It’s funny how one left or right turn can utterly change your perspective. For years I trawled up and down the parkway through the middle of Moss Side, every morning and evening. Then I moved and the Parkway is no longer on my route and off my radar. Luckily a little terrier I know casually mentioned “have you got that shop in the Moss” and like a collie dog by the butchers I got the scent and went running.
One Drop sits on the Princess Parkway just by the crossroads of Moss Lane East. The shop specialises in Reggae, Dancehall, Roots, Conscious, Bashment and the tunes that kids far far cooler than a middle aged man listen to! (Assassin Crew, Sizzla, Bugle etc). Tappa Benz is the man behind the counter and also a DJ on Manchester’s Irie FM as well as being part of the Manchester Sound System, Hussla Ghetto Heart. The man knows and loves his tunes! The stock is 95% CDs and DVDs with a sprinkling of vinyl, new and old. Indeed Tappa bought out a pile of old vinyl for me to flick through and we had some fun negotiating the deal. Truth is I wanted the Dennis Brown but just didn’t have the cash on me Tappa, but that Gospel/Reggae album was a killer!
If you want the latest underground sounds and want them from the source and the guys who live, love and play these tunes out then One Drop should be on your list.

They still do, and 'kids' of all ages should be pleasantly surprised at just how many places in this city they can still buy records from. So this is our one-stop guide to the fantastic record shops of Greater Manchester, from the 'Vinyl Valley' that is Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, to the windswept streets of Bolton, Lancashire. Browse the menu on the right hand side and go shopping!
